Managing IoT Devices¶
IoT Devices sensors and devices include Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) beacons, gateways, and other similar devices that enable positioning and wayfinding with high accuracy. Pointr’s platform integrates seamlessly with different IoT devices. Refer to our documentation for compatibility.
Pointr Cloud Dashboard lets you manage IoT devices right on your map. Easily view and update device data, tag locations with building info, and effortlessly track all device details.

On the
Content
page, access theIoT Devices
page -
Click on the
Add new
button to create a new IoT Device -
Add IoT Device details:
- Major (required)
- Minor (required)
- UUID (required)
- External Identifier (optional)
- Define the device location (required): Use the
Pin
tool to drop a location on your map.
Note
UUID/Major/Minor: In the iBeacon protocol, these values act like a beacon’s DNA, making each one unique. Major and Minor are numbers ranging from 1 to 65535. This system helps identify beacons in the Pointr Cloud platform. To learn more, check the supported format of UUID/Major/Minor.

Right-click on the screen to finalize the location and end the editing process.

To update an IoT Device, follow these steps:
- Search or Click: Select an IoT Device via the
Filter
bar or click directly on the map. - Quick Zoom: Use the
Quick Locate
tool for a close-up view - Clear Geometry: Remove the device mark using the
Clear
tool , then use thePin
tool to set a new location. - Adjust Device Location: Use the
Modify
tool to drag the device to a new location.

Right-click on the map to finalize your edits

Click
Save
if you are satisfied with your changes -
Publish your new IoT Device before it can be used on the Pointr SDKs or REST API.
Removing an IoT Device:¶

To delete the entire IoT Device and its metadata, access the
Danger Zone
and clickDelete
. -
A pop-up notification will appear. Click
Yes, continue
to delete the item, or clickNo, go back
to cancel the request.Warning
Be careful when deleting content, as it is irreversible. Deleted content cannot be recovered, except in rare cases where manual recovery may be possible upon contacting Pointr.
