Managing Sites, Buildings, Levels¶
Welcome to our tutorial on using Pointr Cloud Dashboard to create and manage maps. We’ll walk you through the process of efficiently handling your Pointr Maps.
Key Components:
- Client: Represents your organization or entity. Top-level container for your map data.
- Site: Specific location or area within your organization (e.g., workplace, campus). Manage multiple sites within a client.
- Building: Physical structure within a site (e.g., office building, hospital). Create and manage different buildings within a site.
- Level: Refers to a specific area or floor within a building. You can sort and arrange maps according to different levels of buildings.
Throughout this tutorial, we’ll provide step-by-step instructions to create, edit, and manage these components using Pointr Cloud Dashboard, including:
Managing Client¶
Client refers to the owner or manager of sites and buildings and is the top-level container of your map data in Pointr Cloud.
Note
Pointr Cloud currently supports only one default client and does not have multi-client capability.
With Advanced Configuration
, you can easily customize your map’s SDK settings. This includes changing the maximum and minimum zoom levels, choosing a map style, adjusting the color of paths, and more.
To do this, go to Advanced Configuration
, navigate to the SDK
section, and make the desired adjustments. For more information on customizing maps with Pointr Cloud Dashboard, please consult your Project Manager.
Creating and Managing Sites¶
-
Navigate to the
Sites
page by following the hierarchy: Client > Sites > Buildings > Levels > Content. Note: Upon logging in to Pointr Cloud Dashboard, you’ll be directed to theSites
page. -
Click on the
Add new
button to create a new site. Provide the following details:- Site Name (required)
- External Identifier (required): must be unique within your selected sites (Note: We suggest utilizing the ‘External Identifier’ field. Internal identifiers may undergo changes during transitions between environments, but External Identifiers will remain consistent.)
- Coordinates (required): specify the geographic boundary of the site using WGS 84 coordinates, which are the same as GPS coordinates.
Note
We use WGS 84 Web Mercator coordinates (e.g., -22.90556, -47.06083), commonly used by map websites. They help with dashboard scrolling and won’t impact your indoor map experience. They don’t require precise coordinates and can have slightly larger/smaller boundaries than your actual site or buildings. These coordinates merely act as approximate virtual boundaries to cover your sites and buildings. Rest assured, our Mapping service ensures meticulous georeferencing accuracy. Learn more here.

Locating a real-world location:
- Use the
Search bar
at the top of the map. - E.g., enter a keyword like
JFK
for John F. Kennedy International Airport to quickly find and create a site for that location.
- Use the
-
Drawing shapes and boundaries:
- Use the
Geometry tools
to draw shapes and boundaries for your sites. - Choose from options like the
polygon
,circle
, orcut-out
tools to create a desired layout.
Note
To remove the entire geometry input and create a new one, click on the
Clear
icon . Then follow the steps above to draw a new boundary for your site. - Use the
-
Click
Save
to apply your changes. -
Publish your new site before it can be used on the Pointr SDKs or REST API.
Note
The time required for Pointr Cloud to process and publish your content may vary based on factors such as map size, number of points of interest (POIs), and map complexity.
💡Tips: You can quickly navigate to any site on the world map using the Quick Locate
icon.
Note
We don’t offer mapping services for areas outside a site, as that’s already offered by established outdoor mapping platforms like Google Maps, Apple Maps, or OpenStreetMap. However, with Pointr Cloud API, you have the option to integrate our indoor maps into these outdoor map systems. For more information, please consult your Project Manager.
Removing a Site:¶
-
To delete the entire site, including its metadata, access the
Advanced Configurations
on the left. -
Under the
Danger Zone
, click onDelete
-
An alert will appear. Click
Confirm
in the top-right corner to remove the item, or clickCancel Deletion
to cancel the request.
Warning
Be careful when deleting content, as it is irreversible. Deleted content cannot be recovered, except in rare cases where manual recovery may be possible upon contacting Pointr.
Creating and Managing Buildings¶

Drawing shapes and boundaries:
- Use the

Creating and Managing Levels and Maps¶
A building is composed of one or more levels (floors). Whilst level index is not important, it is crucial that:
Levels are in the correct order (reflecting their physical state - eg. if a level is higher than another level, its index must be higher) Level indices are numbered sequentially (eg. 1-2-3, 4-5-6) except for levels that have high ceilings. For example, if there is a level that has double the height, index should increment double to reflect it (eg. 1-2-4-5).
- After creating a building, choose the building where you want to place your level (digital map).
Note
Mapping outside a site is not offered as it is typically provided by established levels like Google Maps, Apple Maps, and OpenStreetMap. However, through Pointr Cloud API, you have the option to integrate our indoor maps into these outdoor map systems. For more information, please consult your Project Manager.
